The AFL is seeking more information about an alleged weekend assault reportedly involving Brisbane Lions player Daniel Rich.
A 41-year-old man claims he was accosted by a Lions player who tipped him from his wheelchair at a Brisbane taxi rank, threw food at him and took his cab.
The club and Queensland Police have confirmed they’re investigating the matter.
League boss Andrew Demetriou has told Melbourne radio station 3AW the AFL is looking into the matter.
“There’s not enough information at the moment, I wouldn’t be jumping to any conclusions,” Demetriou said.
“What’s interesting about this story is it happened on Sunday and it’s Friday. Normally these things would come out within 24 hours as you would know.
“I mean it’s pretty hard to keep these things quiet. But look we’re taking the matter seriously and we’ll look into it.”
The allegation comes the same week St Kilda players were accused of burning the clothes of an entertainer as part of its Mad Monday celebrations.
Blake Johnston, an entertainer known as Mr Big, claimed St Kilda’s Leigh Montagna had hired him and a colleague to work at the Saints’ Mad Monday function this week as fake security staff.
His clothes were burned and Johnston claimed Montagna refused to pay for damages.
Clinton Jones has apologised and will pay $ 3,000 to a charity after he helped burn Johnston’s clothes with a lighter.
After Jones burnt him, Johnston said he sent Montagna an email and asked for the burnt clothes to be replaced.
