A candidate for the Australian Greens and champion of electric cars has pleaded guilty to drink-driving in a Hobart court.
The party’s candidate for Franklin, Rosalie Woodruff, has entered the plea to a single charge in Hobart Magistrates Court.
Dr Woodruff, a renowned epidemiologist and local councillor, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.065 when tested in June.
She arrived at her candidacy launch last year in a Daihatsu converted to run on electricity, declaring Tasmania could become a centre for the industry.
Dr Woodruff has apologised for the incident.
Greens leader Christine Milne said the party did not condone drink-driving.
“It is never a good idea to engage in drink driving and I hope if there is one thing that comes out of this it will remind people of that very strong message,” Senator Milne told reporters in Hobart.
Labor minister Julie Collins holds Franklin with a margin of 10.8 per cent and is likely to retain the seat in Saturday’s federal election.
