Solomon sticks with the Coalition (ABC) - ( 4U5TR4L14 )

A triumphant Natasha Griggs has claimed the Darwin/Palmerston seat of Solomon, after a knife-edge vote count saw the Country Liberals incumbent battle for the lead with her Labor opponent Luke Gosling.

“It was a tough three years being in Opposition, but you know, I learned a lot,” Ms Griggs told a jubilant crowd of supporters.

“And my pledge to the people of Darwin and Palmerston, who put their trust in me for another three years, I’m going to deliver on every single promise I made – and more.”

At last count, Ms Griggs had 51.07 per cent of the vote after preferences.

She suffered a .68 per cent swing against her.

Mr Gosling told a crowd of Labor faithful that it had been a “mammoth effort” from many in the party, and they had fallen just short.

“I think the result shows that Labor, here in the Territory, we’re a good team and we’re strong, and we’ve had some leadership difficulties nationally, but we do some great things,” Mr Gosling said.

“The thing is, you can fix unity, but you can’t fix your values. And we’ve got good values.”
