Fire burning out of control on Tipperary Station (ABC) - ( 4U5TR4L14 )

Fire crews will spend the weekend fighting a blaze on Tipperary Station, which has already destroyed an estimated 30,000 hectares.

It’s not known how the fire started, and at this stage the blaze is not threatening the famous homestead area, located in the Douglas Daly region, south of Darwin.

Senior fire control officer John Whatley, says hot and gusty conditions are making efforts to control this fire extremely difficult.

“The fire jumped the containment line an hour ago,” he said on today’s (Friday) Country Hour.

“The last couple days have been very blustery and within a matter of an hour the winds pick up and you just don’t know what you’re facing.”

He says crews hope to have the fire contained again later this afternoon.
