James Maloney fires Sydney Roosters to NRL minor premiership with win over South Sydney Rabbitohs (ABC) - ( 4U5TR4L14 )

James Maloney sliced through South Sydney’s defence twice as the Sydney Roosters put their recent poor form aside to win 24-12 at the Olympic stadium on Friday night.

The Roosters had lost two straight games heading into the battle between the NRL’s top two sides, but Maloney’s two tries and four pointers for Aidan Guerra and Mitchell Pearce secured a morale-boosting win.

Greg Inglis had opened the scoring for the Rabbitohs with a typically powerful run 12 minutes into the first stanza, but Maloney and Guerra responded with two quickfire efforts within 10 minutes.

Jason Clark scored to level the try count for both sides as Souths took a 12-10 half-time lead, but Sydney powered to victory with 14 unanswered points in the second half.

More to follow.

Sydney Roosters: 24 (J Maloney 2, A Guerra, M Pearce tries; J Maloney 3/4 cons, 1/1 pens, 0/1 field goals)

South Sydney: 12 (G Inglis, J Clark tries; A Reynolds 2/2 cons)
