Tourists wrong-footed as hire car makes splash (ABC) - ( 4U5TR4L14 )

An Outback holiday has turned into an embarrassing and expensive disaster for a pair of Spanish tourists who accidentally drove their four-wheel-drive into a resort swimming pool.

Northern Territory Police Superintendent Bob Harrison says three children were playing in the pool at the Kings Canyon Resort, about 270 kilometres west of Alice Springs, when the hired Toyota Prado splashed in.

He says no one was hurt in the accident.

“Unfortunately, they mistook the accelerator and the brake pedal,” he said.

“They managed to drive across the car park, through the wooden playground there, cleaned up the steel pool fencing, knocked over a couple of barbeques and drove straight into the Kings Canyon Resort swimming pool.

“We spoke to the driver of the car.

“He has got very limited English, so we are going to have another attempt [to find out what happened].”
