Coroner urges mother of dead baby to come forward (ABC) - ( 4U5TR4L14 )

A Tasmanian Coroner is urging the mother of a newborn baby found dead in a park near Hobart two years ago to come forward.

The baby girl’s body was found in Willow Avenue at Kingston in October 2011, but mystery still surrounds the case.

An autopsy was unable to determine the cause and time of the newborn’s death.

Police were not able to locate the mother and her identity remains a mystery.

The body was found with an umbilical cord and placenta.

Tasmanian Coroner Olivia McTaggart is conducting an inquest into the case.

Mrs McTaggart has taken the unusual step of a public plea to help find the mother.

She has addressed the media, urging the woman to come forward to get support for her own wellbeing.

Mrs McTaggart hopes to conclude the inquest by the end of the year.
