Footy fans attacked in Vic after AFL match (AAP & Yahoo!7) - ( 4U5TR4L14 )

Police are looking for witnesses after two footy fans were attacked while walking home from an AFL elimination final in Melbourne.

The men, 34-year-old Heathmont man and a 31-year-old Heidelberg man, were outside the train station near the MCG when they were assaulted just before 8pm (AEST) on Sunday after the match between Carlton and Richmond.

The pair who were attacked were wearing Carlton Football Club clothing.

The men suffered upper body injuries and were knocked unconscious during the altercation. They were taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.

Police questioned a 25-year-old Chelsea man and a 26-year-old Clayton man. The Clayton man was wearing Richmond Football Club clothing.

Both men have been released pending further enquiries.

Investigators believe a number of people may have witnessed the altercation and are currently reviewing CCTV footage in the area.
